I'm hoping you realize this isn't Mariners, decided to stop with the childish threats, get an attorney and discharge the debt once and for all. If you're being garnished, you didn't pay them for months on end.

You ignored them or a collection agency and were finally sued. The time to get an attorney was when you were being sued. Please tell me you showed up for the case and told the judge you had insurance and needed your paperwork from them. If not, they got a default judgment and are taking you for all they can.

The time for playing the I have insurance game is over. You had your "day" in court and somehow lost. They aren't sending you @#$#.

Talking all this pain and hardship noise is a waste. File for bankruptcy and be done with it.

They took me to court for a little over $500. Instead of going to court I paid $549. They sent a letter about my account inquiring about a payment. I called to find out how much I owed. The representative asked me when I could make a payment and I said the 16th She asked if I was making two payments and I said one She then made the threat then we'll call the lawyers Don't ever do business with these predatory company.

BE VERY CAREFUL

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I received a check from Mariner Finance for $1300 stating I was Pre-Qualified based on my Excellent Credit. I have never heard of Mariner Finance.

I really didn’t need the check or the money. I currently have 14 Credit Cards with very high credit limits and all with zero balances. I have Excellent Credit with a Score of almost 800. I called them multiple times to find out how they got my information because I wanted to make sure my information is not being sold by my Credit Monitoring Service due to my Excellent Eredit.

I also made it clear to them I wasn’t interested in their offers. I told them to take my information off their date base and not send me anymore checks or offers. Even in all the multiple calls, the Rep never once told me there was going to be a Credit Check if I eventually decide to cash the check and I never thought there would be one. After all, the loan has already been offered to me and it said it was based on my excellent credit.

So I assumed maybe they ran a Soft Check to make me the offer. I did not expect a Hard Inquiry.

After speaking with them multiple times to make sure my information was not being complromised, I decided to cash the check. After all, I could use the $1300 for a little Weekend Randezvous. I knew it was going to be reported to the Credit Bureaus but I never expected a Hard Inquiry.

I just figured it will only deduct 3 – 4 points at the most which would not have much impact since I had Excellent Credit. Plus I figured it will fall off once I pay it off because my intention was to pay it off in 3 – 4 months at the most. Besides, it was only $1300 on a 26 month term with a $67 monthly payment. I cashed the check on Friday August 16, 2019.

About a week later, I get an Alert from my Credit Monitoring Service that there was a hard inquiry and a change on my Credit Report.

I was shocked because I don’t recall applying for a Credit Card or a Loan. So I logged into my Credit Monitoring Service only to realize that immediately I cashed that check, Marina Finance ran a Hard Inquiry on me. To say I was upset was an understatement. Why would you run a Hard Inquiry on me when you already sent me a check saying it was due to my Excellent Credit?

It put a hard inquiry on my credit report that will be on there for the next 2 years.

Then, 80 points was deducted from my Credit Score. I am not sure why my score was impacted that much. I have never had that much score deducted in all my years of building my Credit. When I saw it, I immediately called them to find out why they ran my Hard Inquiry after they already made me an offer I never asked for in the first place and why that muchPoints was deducted from my Score but the Rep was just silent and never gave me a single answer; because she had none.

She knew they were wrong. I immediately gave her my Debit Card Number and paid off the loan. I reinforced to her to please take my name/information off their data base and never send me any offers again.

I am hoping they will update the information as quickly as they reported it with the Credit Bureaus so my Score can go back up. The Hard Inquiry will be there for 2 years for a Loan I never applied for, a loan I never needed and a loan I ended up not using.

I thought of reporting it to the BBB as a false and misleading offer because I was never advised of the Hard Inquiry. Even though I cashed the check, I didn’t authorization them to run my credit check because the letter never advised me that there will be a credit check.

First of all, what kind of fool would hold 14 cards and then brag about a great credit score? All it'll take is a couple of those cards to shut you down and throw your utilization ratio out of joint.

Once that happens, your score will drop like a rock. Why didn't you use one of those 14 cards for a trip? Yeah, you know why. Look, the reason you're getting this mess is that this place and others like it bought and 1000's of other fools who they knew would just jump on some "easy" money without thinking.

I'm sure they weren't looking for people with REAL credit scores not boosted by a purse or wallet full of junk, one-off store cards. They know a sucker when they see one and want to get you on the hook. Here's how to tell, what's the interest rate on that loan? IF it's high, you're a poor risk.

I'll bet it's high huh? Here's what you do, Google "how to get off of pre approved lists" and follow the instructions.

This will stop this joint and others who are out fishing for suckers who cash checks without reading the terms of service. They did what YOU told them to do when you took the money.

Why don't you go slither into a church and get on your hands and knees and try reading a Bible and educate yourself instead of wasting your life sinning and bullying others online!! You sit and call people fools and the Bible is clear that those who do so will go to *** It is not anyone else that is uneducated, but only yourself and you prove that every time you post a comment!!

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Never mind the fact they charge absurd interest rates. They have no desire to work with you if you face a hardship and need to defer a payment. You will be taken to court! The people that work for this company honestly have no heart whatsoever! I have made my payments ($95.25/month) for 23 months now. Thats almost $100/month, yet my balance has only went down $400...explain that to me?!? Where is the money Im paying going??? I understand having bad credit and needing help at times and wanting to take a chance with a company like this. But trust me when I say this company will only make your situation worse! Take the time to fix your credit some and get a loan from a better, more trustworthy company!

"explain that to me?!?" What do you mean to explain that to you? Did you READ und UNDERSTAND what you signed when you took their money?

Do you not have the ability to calculate simple interest? Did you not notice that on crazy loans like this, most of your payments go to interest first? Yeah, you didn't bother with all that did you? This is typical serial dead beat noise and ranks up there with "they won't work with me." Unless you have a "work with me clause," they expect you to pay on time all the time or else.

These people don't want to lose their jobs or keep bad debt on the books longer than they have to. You should have understood this before signing up. There is no compassion or working with anyone. They aren't here to help you.

They're here to help themselves and their shareholders. That's it. To expect anything else is naive at best. Thanks for the what not to do if you're an adult who can read and handle their business.

It serves as a warning to others to read what they sign. OK...this is the part where you say "you must work for them."

Do you just sit on your computer and wait to reply to everyone’s complaint? You need to get a life!

I’m aware of how interest works! I’m aware of how loans work! But to have a $700 loan, pay almost $2300 in almost 2 years (next month will be 2 years exactly actually), but the balance only go down $400? Something isn’t right there and money is being mishandled somewhere no matter what kind of explanation anyone tries to give!

Yes “you are expected to pay on time,” but this is the ONLY lender I’ve ever seen that doesn’t offer a deferred payment once or twice if needed. And it’s the ONLY lender I’ve ever seen that will take you to court for being late on ONE payment! So get your facts straight loser! Anyone is allowed to come on this site and post any review they choose and my experience with Mariner finance has been nothing short of a horrible one.

If you don’t like my review, move along and post your own raving about the company! Let them steal your money, I’m just trying to warn others of the dangers of this scam of a company!

Post on a Public message board expect the Public to respond even if it's not a comment that supports your banal and lame rant. At the end of the day, no one cares if your other creditors do you a "favor" by deferring payments(LOL) and add interest to your notes.

And you wonder why you can't figure your account out doing business like this. No one cares about your anecdote about them taking someone to court for one late payment. That sounds far fetched as it costs a company time and money to do something like this. Here's the thing child, you put a worthless signature down when you took that overpriced crazy money.

This is your fault, no one else's. Again, thanks for the what not to do with your finances if you're a functioning adult who can't accept personal responsibility. P.S. Losers deal with last chance places like this only to whine about the rates.

How about this, you have a way to post this drivel, how about shutting it off, use the extra money to pay this insane note off faster. Nah, that would make too much sense.

the reviews speak for themselves! 161 1 star reviews and you’re the only person I see trying to stick up for them.

I take it you work for them and have made it your life’s mission to try to make a person’s bad situation worse! You’re right, I was extremely stupid to enter into a contract with this company. I was desperate and felt there wasn’t any other option at the time. Hindsight is 20/20 and if I could go back I definitely would have just ridden out the storm without ever picking up the phone to call this place!

FYI, my credit was never bad and I never mismanaged my money! I simply relied on cash and didn’t have any credit at the time! Since you seem to know so much about my life and all...and yes, if I could just shut this device off I would in a heartbeat! Unfortunately in the real world, a person’s children’s school needs to have a phone to be able to get ahold of the parent in an emergency, or a doctors office, or an employer!

So obviously shutting the device off isn’t practical now is it? To sit there and say “no one cares what you have to say” when you have taken the time to answer not once but twice would very much say you do care carry on

hello this is Robert Llewellyn. hello this is Robert alone again I'm calling because of an issue I have with your Mariner's Bank in Greenwood. Sad yes this is Robert Llewellyn. I'm calling about an issue. with your Greenwood branch. I lost my job after 13 years. because of downsizing. when I called your branch. they told me I had unemployment insurance policy. when my payment was due. they called me for payment. I told them about the employment unemployment policy. they told me it no longer existed. because I refinanced. this I find to be incorrect. I have since had my wages garnished. $500 a month. my original payment was only $177 a month. I lost my agreement papers in water damage. and in need of a copy of mine. I need this for my lawyer and bankruptcy lawyer. so any help I can get in providing would be helpful.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

So I have had a loan with Mariner Finance for almost a year, borrowed 3,000.00 and pay $184.00 a month payment. I never missed a payment and always pay early.

I call to get payoff on this loan because they report to credit bureaus that I owe over $6600.00 to them and every month I make a payment my score drops a little because it says that the balance has increased instead of decreased.

my pay off is now $3213.80 which is more than I borrowed even after making $1656.00 in payments........don't take a loan with these people to improve your credit scores it will only make them drop and it is nearly impossible to get out from under it unless you pay it off.... no matter what you will lose a ton of money

Please contact your state attorney generals office online and file a complaint with them and the CFPB. I have the exact same issue and have contacted a handful of regulators as I work for the government and know who regulates businesses like this. We all need to consider getting together and filing a large class action lawsuit.

Guest

Thanks for the great post on WHAT NOT to do if you can handle your business like an adult. Look, people like you whined several years about crazy loans like this.

The result, the government forced banks and credit cards to put it in plain English and bolded print that tells you how much the money will cost you if you pay it to term. It tells you the interest rate which in your case and people who think to take a loan will raise their credit scores will be high. It's YOUR fault if you don't bother to read and understand what YOU signed up for.

Bottom line, do not sign the paperwork if you don't want to pay back a lot more money than you borrowed. OK, this is the part where you say "you must work for them."

We call outfits like that "loan sharks" around here. They take advantage of persons like yourself who are not familiar with the murderous act of compound interest vs.

term duration. It's simple math to see that you'd end up where you are.

I keep getting emails saying I have missed a payment. I have Never missed a payment. There have been only two times that I didn't have the exact amount so I paid what I could in which I was only $30.00 short each time, I still get a late charge even though I tried, I should have just missed the payment completely because that is what they are acting like., even though I made an effort. So apparently they don't care about someone who has stuck with them for a long time has gotten a few loans from them and has Never defaulted on any of the loans, they have always been paid off.

You're joking right? Please tell me you're joking.

Look, if you short a payment, that payment is LATE. It will draw a late fee. To make matters worse for you, the first part of every payment you make will go to the oldest open balance. If you owe $100.00, pay $70.00 and pay $100.00 next month, the first $30.00 goes to the past due.

You have to catch your account up unless you enjoy late fees and the further destruction of your credit.

Of course, this would have been known to you had you bothered to read the terms you agreed to when you foolishly took this expensive money. "You must work for them."

Fraudulent activities by branch manager Carrie

Fraudulent activities by branch manager Carrie. On October 4, 2019, I call the Orange Park location to make a payment on my account using my ATM debit card and I spoke with the branch manager Carrie on this transaction. My records indicate that on October 7, 2019 the funds were taken out of my account and paid to Mariner Finance. I email my bank records to Mariner showing that the payment were made and the date, I even hand delivered a hard copy of the documents to your Orange Park location. I have called multiple times to speak with Carrier concerning this matter only to be avoided. Carrie, handle this transaction with my funds and She didn’t do the right thing and She dropped the ball. If this issue isn’t resolved by November 1,2019, I will be reporting this matter to the better bus Business Bureau and my local News Station.

I cannot do online payments, I can’t do over the phone payments.

That's no excuse for late payments. If they want a Certified Check, stop at the bank for 5 minutes and get one.

Spend 5 more minutes to mail it from the post office. While you're at it, send it via Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested ; it's an extra 6 bucks but you get undeniable proof of delivery.

Typical serial dead beat loser talk. On the upside side, you didn't say "you must work for them" or "they won't work with me." You did use a version of "life happens" or "not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouths." Look, I'm betting they want a certified check either because you've bounced other checks or they're a short hair from sending you out to collections.

It's funny you can't pay your note online but you can get online to post this banal and lame nonsense. Grow up...
